What is a Forex Broker?

A forex broker is a company or individual that acts as an intermediary between traders and the foreign exchange market. They provide traders with access to the market, and often offer a variety of tools and services to help them make informed trades. Forex brokers make money by charging a spread, which is the difference between the bid and ask price of a currency pair.

Types of Forex Brokers

There are two main types of forex brokers: dealing desk (DD) and no dealing desk (NDD).

Dealing Desk (DD) Brokers

Dealing desk brokers, also known as market makers, operate as counterparty to their clients’ trades. This means that they take the other side of their clients’ trades, and profit from the spread. Dealing desk brokers are also responsible for setting the bid and ask prices for currency pairs, which can sometimes lead to conflicts of interest.

No Dealing Desk (NDD) Brokers

No dealing desk brokers, also known as straight-through processing (STP) brokers, pass their clients’ trades directly to the market, without acting as counterparty. This means that they do not take the other side of their clients’ trades, and do not profit from the spread. NDD brokers are considered to be more transparent than dealing desk brokers, as they do not have any conflicts of interest.
